Deconstructing to construct

The art of Maria Kassab

dentel_

Who is she?

It’s not where you take things from – it’s where you take them to. Jean-Luc Godard.

This is Maria Kassab’s motto. A graphic design graduate from the Lebanese American University, with a minor in Fine Arts, she found her path through illustration and collage.

What is her art?

Deconstructing objects, images, photographs, prints, shapes, lines, and put them together to take them to another dimension. The results are odd, but beautiful collages and illustrations, highlighting the characters, putting them at the centre of it.

What inspires her?

Maria is inspired by us, the humans, with our ability to destroy and build, but at the same time to dream, fear or love. She tries to convey all these emotions in her work. She wants to translate emotions into canvas, through the surreal and the illogical atmosphere to it. This is why people understand her pieces in a different way.

What is her favourite piece?

“On That Day”. She wouldn’t be able to describe it, the piece says it all.

Where to find her?

Her blog: sofyasunshine.
