Off the walls

Visual Sunday

There is something about city walls. Their place in the public space, the way they convey messages between people who thread the streets and sidewalks they’re lining. Anchored to the ground, they embody the perpetual and consistent face of a city: the one that has the same shade of grey every time you look at it.

The other face is the fluctuating, unexpected one, the one that bears all the colours of the palette. This is the bustle of the city: its people, its passing days and nights. Occasionally, bits of this urban life gets glued or nailed to these walls, or carved into them or written on their surface.
