Ali Taptık’s photographs are very much a product of his ritual of walking. An architectural historian by training, Taptık’s shots reveal moments of pause in traversing the hectic urban landscape. The series, Towards a Flora is Taptık’s visual research into urban plant life, depicting lone potted plants scattered throughout the city. Surviving in broken and rusty pots about to fall over, chained and fenced these life forms remain poignant details within grand scale urban architecture.

The photographs were showcased at the group exhibition This Secret World That Exists Right there in Public at Rampa, Istanbul, the series also appeared in book form in Metropol Yeşili [Metropolitan Green] and will be travelling to the Photobook Museum during August 2014.
